Sangster Elementary School opened in 1989 as part of the Fairfax County Public Schools system. The school is located within Orange Hunt Estates, Springfield, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC. The school is named after Judge James Sangster, a Fairfax County judge from 1874-1875, who lived in the area and is buried in the Old Lee Chapel Cemetery just a block from the school.
Sangster is two-story building for grades K-6 and houses an Advanced Academics (AA) center, for grades 3-6, and an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) enhanced autism program. It has a large playground, with a normal sized cafeteria, stage, and full-size gymnasium. It is across from South Run RECCenter. It is under the leadership of Principal Chris Summers and Assistant Principal Allison Jankovich. Sangster's mascot was once the "Sagnstersaurus" but was changed in the early 2000's to the Falcon. Sangster feeds into the Lake Braddock Secondary School; Washington Irving Middle School and West Springfield High School; and South County Middle School and South County High School.
Among the Sangster alumni is Michael Nebrich who went on to Lake Braddock Secondary School. He was quarterback of the Lake Braddock Varsity Football Team and led the team to the 2009 State Championships.
Nearby schools are Cherry Run, Orange Hunt, White Oaks, and Newington Forest.
